Peppermint Essential Oil, Therapeutical Grade

Fragrance: Fresh, herbaceous, slightly hot

Perfumery Note: Top

Blends well with: Eucalyptus, lavender, marjoram, citrus oils, cedarwood, cypress, rosemary, geranium, basil, pine.

External Application:

Kurt Schnaubelt says: “This oil provides almost instant relief from nausea and indigestion. It may be the most effective liver tonic of all essential oils. Its analgesic properties have been demonstrated, especially for migraine (apply 15% solution in rubbing alcohol to forehead, neck and shoulders).”

Application in Cosmetics:

On account of its stimulating, refreshing and antiseptic properties, peppermint oil is especially suitable for the care of greasy and irritated skin.

Mixed with vegetable oil (5 drops of peppermint oil to 10ml of plant oil) for the treatment of: Skin irritation, colds (use as a chest-rub), muscular pains and pains in the joints (soothing), rheumatism and lumbago, shingles (takes away the irritation), ideal as a stomach-massage when suffering from colic

Mixed with alcohol (5-7 drops of peppermint oil to 10 ml of spirits): In the sauna, when suffering from halitosis (add a few drops to your gargling rinse)

As an inhalant (add 10 drops to 1 litre of hot water) for the treatment of bad, persistent colds.

Apply in undiluted form (1-2 drops) as a cure for: Toothaches (dab the affected tooth), headaches (rub the temples, but avoid eyes!), as an insect repellent (put 2-3 drops onto or near your pillow)

An extensive study (documentary on Discovery Channel) has shown that peppermint oil is the very best to use in cars, because of its dual function of increasing concentration and at the same time taking away aggressions.

Internal Application:

1 drop of peppermint oil in a glass of peppermint tea or with honey provides a stomachic tonic that has a sudorific, expectorant, antispasmodic, antiseptic and soothing effect. It stimulates the nervous system, menstruation and concentration and helps with flatulence, fevers, exhaustion and sensitiveness to weather changes. Extremely stimulating liver tonic.

In the Diffuser:

Activates the brain and stimulates the mind for clear thoughts, as an air-purifier during spells of flu, very refreshing.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are potent plant extracts! Do not take any oils internally without consultation from a qualified medical practitioner. Keep all essential oils securely out of child’s reach. Do not apply undiluted to the skin. Always avoid mucous membranes and eyes. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Use extreme caution when using oils for children and use only the gentlest oils at very low concentrations; it is safest to consult a qualified medical / aromatherapy practitioner. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using any oil. Essential oils may attack plastics and varnished surfaces! And here’s another fact that most of us would be rather unaware of... many essential oils are highly flammable!
