Clove Essential Oil, Therapeutical Grade
Fragrance: Aromatic and woody, sweet and warm, spicy
Perfumery Note: Middle
Blends well with: Basil, cinnamon, citronella, lavender, sandalwood, ginger, orange.
External Application:
When suffering from toothache, apply pure clove oil with an ear bud (do not use for prolonged periods though, as this is a very strong oil). It is also very effective if used in toothpastes and mouthwashes.
Mixed with vegetable oil (3-5 drops to 10ml of vegetable oil) as an insect repellent
Use compresses with clove oil for badly healing wounds and inflamed skin. Diluted to 1 percent, clove oil is 3 to 4 times more effective in killing bacteria than phenol.
Excerpt from Kurt Schnaubelt’s “Medical Aromatherapy”: “The essential oil of clove has an impressive range of action against pathogens and illnesses of all kinds. It is antiparasitic and works for gum infections, toothaches and tonsillitis. Research indicates its usefulness for poliomyelitis (viral disease that infects nervous systems) , multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, cholera, Hodgkin’s disease, hepatitis, malaria, viral colitis, dysentery, amoebas, spasmodic colitis, thyroid imbalance, arthritis, viral neuritis, neuralgia, salpingitis and cystitis”.
Internal Application:
Carminative( relieves flatulence); anthelmintic (kills parasites or worms); 1 drop of clove oil added to a teaspoon of honey helps with stomach- and intestinal complaints, and also with diarrhoea; its effect is germicidal and soothing.
In the Diffuser:
It is sexually stimulating, warming, antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasm) & antiseptic,stimulates the brain asthma, sinus infection, bronchitis.
SPECIFIC SAFETY ADVICE
Always test sensitivity with very small quantities and highly diluted, as clove oil is a potential skin irritant and sensitizer! Avoid in pregnancy, if you have high blood pressure, with small children or the elderly.
GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are potent plant extracts! Do not take any oils internally without consultation from a qualified medical practitioner. Keep all essential oils securely out of child’s reach. Do not apply undiluted to the skin. Always avoid mucous membranes and eyes. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Use extreme caution when using oils for children and use only the gentlest oils at very low concentrations; it is safest to consult a qualified medical / aromatherapy practitioner. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using any oil. Essential oils may attack plastics and varnished surfaces! And here’s another fact that most of us would be rather unaware of... many essential oils are highly flammable!
