Myrrh Essential Oil, Therapeutical Grade

Fragrance: Smoky, herbaceous, woody

Perfumery Note: Base to Middle

Blends well with: Frankincense, lavender, rose, clove, rosewood, sandalwood, tea tree.

External Application:

Myrrh has been valued both in religious ceremonies and medicinally. This warm, rich, spicy and camphoraceous scent is distilled from the resin of a Middle Eastern shrub. The Egyptians used Myrrh for embalming, made healing unguents and burned it as incense. The ancient Hebrews drank it with their wine to raise consciousness. The Romans and Greeks put it in healing salves and ointments. Myrrh oil can be diffused to create a warm and deeply tranquil atmosphere. Its grounding and uplifting quality soothes sorrow and loss, frees the mind from mundane worry and mental distraction and brings spiritual peace.

Myrrh corrects severe intestinal maladies such as dysentery. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory, and despite its mild nature has excellent antiviral properties.

Myrrh is also antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal, clears toxins and promotes tissue repair. It is useful in treating infections especially in the mouth and gums, for cracked skin and for healing deep wounds without scarring. It is good for eczema and athlete's foot.

On the skin, it is used with great success on boils, skin ulcers, bedsores, chapped and cracked skin, ringworm, weeping wounds, eczema, stretch marks, scars and athlete's foot.

Internal Application:

It will help to clear old coughs and is good for laryngitis. Use myrrh in massage oil for anyone who tends to be cold and lethargic. It generates warmth and stimulates the stomach and uterus.

It deflates sexual over-excitation. Recently it has been found that sesquit rpenoid compounds found in myrrh bind the opioid receptors in the cerebral membranes and show structural similarity with opioid agonists.

According to the authors of the study, receptor involvement explains the analgesic effects of myrrh and its widespread medicinal use throughout history. Preferred mode of use: internal and external

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are potent plant extracts! Do not take any oils internally without consultation from a qualified medical practitioner. Keep all essential oils securely out of child’s reach. Do not apply undiluted to the skin. Always avoid mucous membranes and eyes. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Use extreme caution when using oils for children and use only the gentlest oils at very low concentrations; it is safest to consult a qualified medical / aromatherapy practitioner. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using any oil. Essential oils may attack plastics and varnished surfaces! And here’s another fact that most of us would be rather unaware of... many essential oils are highly flammable!
