Kurt Schnaubelt writes:

Niaouli oil, or MQV, as it is often referred to, has a surprising variety of properties. It is an excellent expectorant, and also possesses useful antiallergic and antiasthmatic properties. It is an endocrine tonic, with special affinity to pituitary and ovarian glands. It strengthens and regenerates in cases of asthenia and has even been recommended to help alleviate arthrosis. In French aroma medical practice, it is also used for hepatitis and dysplasia of the colon and to protect against burns from radiation treatment. It is a safe vaginal touche (mixed with tea tree).”

This oil is particularly useful for children, as it has the same powerful properties as tea tree oil, but is gentler in scent and action.

Diluted in water (5-6 drops of niaouli oil in 1/4 litre of boiled and

cooled water): For cleansing small wounds and burns; for rinsing soiled cuts and grazes

With bigger burns apply a few drops of niaouli oil onto a layer of sterile gauze (medical bandaging material) and put this onto the wound. Niaouli stimulates cell-regeneration, which speeds up the healing process considerably.

It is used in a variety of skin disorders and infections, including chicken pox, skin cancer, cold sores, herpes, acne and roundworm. As an additive to other inhalants (5-10 drops to 1 litre of water). Inhaling this helps with all infections of the respiratory tracts (throat, nose, lung).

For ear infections, mix 1 tablespoon of St. John’s Wort oil with drops of niaouli and insert into outer ear.

Internal Application:

2-3 drops of niaouli oil on a teaspoon of honey help when sufferin from colds, rheumatism, bronchitis, and other infections of the respiratory and urinary tract; niaouli oil stimulates the blood circulation, is antiseptic, analgesic, haemostatic and expectorant.

In the Diffuser:

For colds, flu, bronchitis, coughs, as an air-purifier, brings clarity into our thoughts.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are potent plant extracts! Do not take any oils internally without consultation from a qualified medical practitioner. Keep all essential oils securely out of child’s reach. Do not apply undiluted to the skin. Always avoid mucous membranes and eyes. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Use extreme caution when using oils for children and use only the gentlest oils at very low concentrations; it is safest to consult a qualified medical / aromatherapy practitioner. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using any oil. Essential oils may attack plastics and varnished surfaces! And here’s another fact that most of us would be rather unaware of... many essential oils are highly flammable!
