Vetiver Essential Oil, Therapeutical Grade
Fragrance: Sweet, earthy, musty, heavy, woody
Perfumery Note: Base
Blends well with: Everything in need of a smooth and lingering base note... especially citrus, the aphrodisiac oils (rose, jasmine, sandalwood, ylang ylang...), lavender, cinnamon, ylang...
Caution! Much of this oil in the market is actually cheap, synthetic vetiveryl acetate!
External Application:
Susanne Fischer-Rizzi writes: This oil connects us to the earth’s energies. It is a source of vital energy and regeneration. When we loose contact with the ground beneath us, with reality, we pay the price of a weakened immune system. When in touch with the earth, we breathe fresh air, enjoy the magic of an open fire and feel the wind blow through our hair. While cypress, in true male-oriented fashion, allows grounding to take place, vetiver does the same with a feminine flair; it is more embracing, warm and deep.
As a massage oil (5-7 drops of vetiver oil to 10ml of vegetable oil).
This oil is quite thick, for easy pouring drop by drop: set in a warm- water bath if necessary.
Insect repellent (use on a piece of cloth inside cupboards, just like patchouli); skin care for ageing, fatigued skin. It has a regenerative effect that acts specifically on deeper skin layers where aging skin loses fat content, causing the outer skin layer to sag.; Tension relief; balances women’s hormones which are reduced during menopause (use in bath or as massage / body lotion); resembles oestrogen and makes a good remedy for postpartum depression caused by low oestrogen hormone levels; helps prevent stretch marks; it is a ‘secret’ ingredient, with geranium and ylang, to enlarge breasts; Aphrodisiac massage oil (for the intimate massage)
Internal Application:
2-3 drops of vetiver oil added to a teaspoon of honey help with depression and nervousness, stimulate the nerves and digestion, and have an antiseptic and sudorific effect. Helps with anorexia.
In the Diffuser:
Helps with depression; severe nervousness; gets us back in touch with our body and sexuality
GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are potent plant extracts! Do not take any oils internally without consultation from a qualified medical practitioner. Keep all essential oils securely out of child’s reach. Do not apply undiluted to the skin. Always avoid mucous membranes and eyes. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Use extreme caution when using oils for children and use only the gentlest oils at very low concentrations; it is safest to consult a qualified medical / aromatherapy practitioner. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using any oil. Essential oils may attack plastics and varnished surfaces! And here’s another fact that most of us would be rather unaware of... many essential oils are highly flammable!
